I paint plates for a business a customer asked for a plate with a NFL team on it.is the breaking copyright law

LEGO Star Wars!

He wants the teams Logo and Name on the plate. I do it all by hand the only thing that is the same is the colors. I draw the logo free hand and everything. But it is the NFL Teams Logo Design. Any help on the matter would be greatly welcomed. I have a craft show coming up and I think they would be a big hit. Would it be breaking the copy right law?

Absolutely, and the NFL will prosecute if they find out. they’re very protective of their IP.

They would be a big hit and a major headache for you. If you really want to sell NFL related items, contact NFL Properties at 212-450-2780 or visit their website at http://www.nfl.biz/.

Oh yeah…breaking copyright, trademark, and licensing laws. If caught, they WILL prosecute.
Chances are, the licensing fees involved will cost a fortune.

Terry Hill told a story to us once (he’s a well known Airbrush Artist out of Florida).
A guy came into his shop…wanted Garfield on a shirt. Terry explained that he couldn’t, it was copyright infringement. The guy was persistent, and tried different angles to get him to do it…different color, different angles..etc… still copy right infringement. The guy wouldn’t let up… finally, Terry told him to give it up, and find something else he’d like, and he’d do it for him when he got back from getting something in the store room. Terry returns…the guy is gone, but sitting on the counter is an envelope.
Inside was a signed pic of Garfield…he had addressed it to Terry, thanking him for his integrity…as the “guy” was Jim Davis, the artist who created Garfield.

I know it’s tempting to just go ahead and do it anyway… but without the proper permissions, etc…it’s a huge risk. Maybe you can come up with something cool on your own, do it in Team colors, be safe, and still make some coin.
